Shopian, Nov 17 (KNO): Acting on specific inputs, the Drug Controller Shopian today sealed a medical shop for violating provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and regulations issued by the State Drug Controller’s regulations concerning prescription drug management.
Based on credible information shared by Shopian Police, a team from the Drug Control Department conducted a surprise inspection of the medical establishment. During the check, officials detected serious discrepancies in the pharmacy’s records. Upon verification of purchase and distribution documents, the team confirmed the unlawful possession of 4,960 pregabalin tablets, which were immediately seized.
The quantity recovered far exceeded the legally permissible limit, raising strong concerns about potential illegitimate use and illegal diversion of prescription medication.
Pregabalin, a controlled substance, is strictly regulated due to its high potential for abuse and diversion, particularly when dispensed outside the mandated regulatory framework.
Authorities further informed that a detailed investigation is underway to trace the origin of the seized stock and identify all individuals linked to its procurement and supply chain.
The coordinated action by Shopian Police and the Drug Control Department underscores the administration’s heightened vigilance and commitment to curbing prescription drug misuse and safeguarding public health in the district—(KNO)
